Pianist / educator / coach

Charlie Tran is a versatile pianist with a diverse musical background including classical, jazz, pop, fusion, and more. Soon after graduating from the prestigious Moore’s School of Music at the University of Houston, he launched a set of comprehensive online coaching programs that outline the specific skills required for playing jazz piano. In addition, he founded Novu Music Academy in his hometown of Houston which offers a variety of opportunities and focuses for students of all levels and interests.

Charlie is also a strong proponent of music education and outreach in all forms and sizes. Some of his contributions include:

2021 - 2023  •  Chairman of the music theory department of HMTA (Houston Music Teacher's Association)

2019 - 2023  • Designed the college preparatory portion of the Emery/Wiener school's piano curriculum

2021  • Selected as the music director for the grand opening of the Elgin St. Studios at the University of Houston

2020 • Co-chair of the music theory committee of HMTA (Houston Music Teacher’s Association

2020  •  Created a series of online piano courses in composition and improvisation at the International Music Academy in Houston

2019  •  Cofounder & director of the rock band program at the T.H. Roger's School
